A call for the selection of doctoral candidates is announced once per academic year, typically between September and November, or at another time deemed appropriate by the Departmental Assembly. Announcements for doctoral candidate positions are posted on the Department’s website. The announcements specify:

The submission period for applications.

The academic fields in which candidates can pursue a doctoral dissertation and the number of positions available per field.

The required supporting documents for the application.

Candidates wishing to undertake a doctoral dissertation in the Department must submit an application to the Secretariat, in accordance with the respective announcement.

Any interested individual meeting the requirements of the Doctoral Studies Regulations may submit an application to the Departmental Assembly to undertake a doctoral dissertation. At a minimum, the application must include the following documents:

a) A detailed curriculum vitae.

b) Academic degree certificates.

c) Certificates of equivalence and recognition from the Hellenic National Academic Recognition Information Center (D.O.A.T.A.P.), where applicable.

d) Transcripts of undergraduate and/or postgraduate studies.

e) A certificate of English language proficiency (minimum level B2). A different language may be accepted if deemed academically important by the Departmental Assembly.

f) At least two letters of recommendation.

g) A doctoral dissertation proposal, including the proposed dissertation title, general purpose and specific objectives, an overview of the research topic (with representative references), the proposed methodology, and a timeline.

h) Any additional documentation that contributes to a more comprehensive evaluation of the candidate (e.g., proof of research activity, certifications of proficiency in foreign languages other than English, awards, proof of professional experience, etc.).

The application must specify the proposed language for the dissertation and writing, which may differ from Greek, as well as the proposed supervisor for the dissertation. The proposed supervisor must be eligible to supervise doctoral dissertations, as stipulated in Article 94 of Law 4957/2022, Article 85 of Law 5094/2024, and Article 7 of the Regulation of the Doctoral Studies Program of the Department.
